That’s one of our crucial duties as parents
and teachers – the creation of good memories. And hopefully the
memories of Bosco graduates will be ones of friendships – especially
of those who are of a different culture or ethnic group. As the family
car trips can sharply bring out the family members’ individual
differences, I think something differently happens at Bosco –
our educational experience unifies us rather than exposing our differences.
But again, this does not happen easily. As the boys get involved in
athletics, ministry, drama, music, class projects, and other activities,
the differences of ethnic, neighborhood, economic, or religious backgrounds
are often forgotten. But it is risky at first, misunderstandings may
need to be worked out, and hurts may need to be forgiven. So we need
to keep our school motto uppermost in our thoughts: ONE BRAVE FAMILY
– ONE BOLD COMMITMENT.
May the Lord keep us resolved to this motto. May
Mary, the Help of Christians -- our mother who has gathered us altogether
as a family – continue to guide and protect us as we journey to
God’s kingdom.
